Djokovic favourite to go all the way

June 2024 · 2 minute read

The Wimbledon singles finals this weekend promise stunning action to decide the third of the year’s four grand slams.

Novak Djokovic is 1/2 to win the men’s title for what would be a record-equalling fifth consecutive time and eighth overall. World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz, the biggest threat to the Serb, could be waiting in the final. The Spaniard is priced at 12/5 to win Wimbledon for the first time.

Ons Jabeur, the 4/9 favourite for the women’s crown, faces Marketa Vondrousova, who is 15/8 to triumph.

Djokovic the dominant force

Djokovic is a red-hot 1/2 favourite to win Wimbledon ahead of the semi-finals and with good reason. The Serb is chasing a fifth straight men’s singles title and eighth overall (both record-equalling feats) and a 24th grand-slam singles crown that would extend his own record.

He moved into the semi-finals with a win over the No 7 seed Andrey Rublev and faces Jannik Sinner on Friday. The Italian is playing in his first grand-slam semi-final and is 12/1 to be crowned champion.

Djokovic has already won the Australian Open and French Open this year and victory would set up the possibility of him becoming just the third man in history to complete a calendar-year grand slam at the US Open in September.

He has not lost at Wimbledon since retiring from a quarter-final against Tomas Berdych in 2017, a year after Sam Querrey beat him in four sets to inflict his most recent defeat in SW19 in a match that went the distance.

The bookmakers see Alcaraz as his main competition for the title. The world No 1 is 12/5 and faces 11/1 shot Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals on Friday. Neither man had been beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon until this year

In the women’s singles, Ons Jabeur is aiming to lift a first grand-slam title and has made it to the final as 4/9 favourite. The Tunisian will face the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (15/8).
