EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Joakim Molitor Talks About His New Single "Weightless"

June 2024 · 4 minute read

We were obsessed with “Weightless” when we first heard it. It wasn’t long after that Joakim Molitor dropped the song officially. It follows up his hit “Always Gonna Say Sorry“. Both songs featured Maia Wright.

Weightless” was dropped on 29 September and has already gained over 250,000 streams on Spotify. It really shows he is starting to make incredible waves in music since both his recent releases are his most streamed songs.

We’re excited for what Joakim Molitor will bring to the music industry in the future. It’s incredible that “Always Gonna Say Sorry” has reached five million streams since its release in May 2017. He certainly is a DJ to keep an eye on.

We were lucky enough to grab an interview with this Swedish DJ. He took some time out to answer our questions about “Weightless“, Maia Wright, and what his plans are for the future.

Hi Joakim, we hope you are well. What have you been up to recently?

I’m currently working on lots of new tracks, having lots of writing sessions. Have been working really hard, which means lots of long days, but it’s been great.

Can you tell us more about your new single “Weightless”?

On this single, the process was a little bit different. The vocals were actually written at a writing camp in Stockholm in the studio next to where I had another session. Then they showed me the top line. I fell in love and started a track the same day. We had one more recording session for more vocals before the song was done. Other songwriters on “Weightless” are Hjalmar Wilén and Ellen Berg Tollbom.

This is the second time Maia Wright has featured on one of your tracks. What’s it like working with her?

It’s always fun working with Maia. She’s really talented and super nice!

How does “Weightless” differ to the previous song “Always Gonna Say Sorry”?

It’s got a little more of a positive and uplifting vibe to it. In my opinion more of a radio song than “Always Gonna Say Sorry”.

If you could choose three words to describe “Weightless”, what words would you choose?

Positive, vocal based, and slamming.

Will there be more collaborations with Maia Wright?

I’m sure there will be more work with Maia. We already have a new session planned. We have a fun, fast, and really smooth workflow together.

How does it feel knowing that “Always Gonna Say Sorry” has received over 5 million Spotify streams?

I’m totally overwhelmed about how much love we’ve got for that song. We had one session of writing this song and we really liked it but we could never imagine this many streams in such a short time.

Do you think “Weightless” has the potential to become just as popular?

It’s always hard to say. I think it has what it takes and I hope Spotify and my listeners think that as well.

You also released a remix of Eric Saade’s “Another Week”, recently, which we adore. What do you make of the song?

Thank you! I am happy with the outcome and have received good feedback from it, which is always great.

What is it like being signed to Uniform Beat?

I signed to them a few years back when I didn’t really have a specific sound. So, the first and almost the second year, was a journey of developing my style; meeting new people, both to write with and also people in the music business overall. Patrik, my A&R at Uniform Beat, always has good thoughts of what’s the next step and they’re really letting me develop my sound, myself; which is really important!

Do you have a message for your fans?

Thank you so much for the all the love, feedback, messages that I’ve got so far. We’ve just started this machine. Let’s make it big! Much love!!!

Thank you so much, Joakim Molitor, for taking the time out to answer our questions. We are loving your music at the moment, and cannot wait for your future releases. “Weightless” is a track we can’t stop listening to.

If you haven’t heard “Weightless” yet, we highly suggest you take a listen. The song is available to download and stream right now.
