How to Change the Name Siri Calls You

June 2024 · 3 minute read

With Siri, names are a one-way street — you can't change the name that Siri calls itself in the same way you can customize the name that Amazon Alexa uses (Alexa can also be called Echo, computer, Amazon, and Ziggy). But you can change your own name that Siri knows you by. Siri can learn your name from the Contacts app, or you can tell her what to call you.

How to change your name for Siri on an iPhone or iPad

There are two ways to change your name for Siri — you can create a new card in the Contacts app, or simply tell Siri what to call you.

1. Start the Contacts app and tap the Plus at the top right.

2. Create a contact with the name you want Siri to know you by. When it's finished, tap Done

3. Start the Settings app.

4. Tap Siri & Search.

5. Tap My Information and then choose the new contact you just created.

If you want to customize the name that Siri uses for you — for example, a nickname that's slightly different than what's on the contact card — say, "Hey, Siri, call me [NAME]." Siri should respond that it will use that new name to refer to you.

To double-check what Siri is calling you, you can say, "Hey, Siri, what's my name?"

Just like on the iPhone or iPad, you can select a contact card in the Contacts app to tell Siri what to call you, and you can further customize your name by talking directly to Siri on your Mac.

1. Start the Contacts app.

2. Click the Plus at the bottom left of any card and then choose New Contact.

3. Create a contact and enter the name you want Siri to use when referring to you. When it's finished, tap Done

4. Make sure that card is selected.

5. In the menu bar, click Card, and then choose Make This My Card.

In addition, you can change the name that Siri uses for you by giving Siri a command. Say, "Hey, Siri, call me [NAME]." Siri will respond that it will use that new name to refer to you.
