During an interview on MSNBC this morning, Victoria Mather, a journalist from the United Kingdom referred to Meghan Markle as just “five clicks up from trailer trash,” a report from Deadline has revealed.
The interview was about Meghan and Harry’s first return to the United Kingdom after first revealing they were stepping away from their royal duties at the beginning of the year.
Mather said to the MSNBC anchor, Lindsey Reiser, that British citizens have since changed their minds about Meghan because of the way she has treated Queen Elizabeth II.
Mather said on the show that many people think of Markle as “just five clicks up from trailer trash,” amid her explanation for why so many people in the United Kingdom no longer like her like the way they used too. Mather went on to add that Queen Elizabeth II was probably one of the most respected people in the world.
Mather’s biography on Twitter claims she was a travel editor of Vanity Fair, however, BuzzFeed reported she has since stopped working for the magazine, leaving in 2018 and is now employed by Air Mail. Graydon Carter, the former editor-in-chief for Vanity Fair, founded Air Mail.

When asked for a comment from multiple publications, Vanity Fair’s owner, Condé Nast, refused to comment. On Twitter, Mather’s comments were not taken lightly by social media users, with many of them saying she was “disgusting” and “racist.”
Another social media user claimed that the interview was proof that Meghan and Harry’s decision to leave the royal family was perfectly timed and for the right reasons. As it was previously reported, Meghan and Harry first announced they were leaving the royal family in January of this year.

As for why they chose to leave, they said in their statement that they wanted to foster their own financial independence for the future. Other insiders have claimed there was a variety of reasons for their exit, including Prince Andrew’s involvement with the deceased sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein, who suspiciously died while in jail, later leading to multiple conspiracy theories.
