June 2024 · 2 minute read

Singer-songwriter Pamela Laws introduces the music video for “Dry My Tears,” the first single from her forthcoming album, The Ones I Love.

Talking about “Dry My Tears,” Pamela shares, “This song is about breaking free from a story that is not mine so that I can grow and gain the strength to face my own challenges… I am calling on the storm and the damn break in order to shed that final layer and be free and complete without unhealthy attachments.”

Produced by Jack Petruzzelli and engineered by Justin Guip at Milan Hill Studios, “Dry My Tears” features the talents of Larry Campbell (mandolin, lead guitar), Jack Petruzzelli (guitar, Hammond organ, Adam Bernstein (bass), and Rich Pagano (drums).

Pamela Laws began her musical career singing backing vocals for Counting Crows. As half of the acoustic duo Seven Day Diary, signed to Warner Chappell and Warner Bros Records, the pair released two records, followed by a role in the movie, Mad City, starring Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta. Pamela played the part of a folk singer and sang Lou Reed’s song, “Is Anybody Listening?”

In 2004, Pamela released her debut solo album, Masters and Gardeners. Since then, she’s dropped a series of singles, as well as her 2022 EP, High West.

Citing influences such as Hank Williams, Gene Autry, Johnny Cash, Roberta Flack, Janis Joplin, Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, and Linda Ronstadt, Pamela’s distinctive sound merges elements of pop, country, and rock into expressive, tantalizing sonic concoctions.

“Dry My Tears” opens on a graceful, sparkling piano riding a delicious, mid-tempo rhythm topped by pop and rock-lite flavors, with tints of country pop. Pamela’s velvety, alluring voice imbues the lyrics with luscious, nuanced tones. The lustrous textures of Campbell’s mandolin infuse the harmonics with polished savors, followed by a dazzling guitar solo laced with Southern rock tangs.

“Let the damn rush and overflow / Throw this coat off of me / When I’m caught in the undertow / Anyone can see I just can’t leave alone.”

Simultaneously captivating, evocative, and sumptuous, “Dry My Tears” is highlighted by the crème de la crème vocals of Pamela Laws.
