R. Kelly’s circumstances just became infinitely worse. Two weeks after the release of the Lifetime docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly, it was revealed by Billboard that Sony had chosen to sever ties with the disgraced R & B musician. The documentary that started the fresh batch of problems for Mr. Kelly claims the R & B singer has been abusing and having sex with minors for years.
When Sony bought out the record company on which Kelly has been signed for nearly the entirety of his career, Jive, he effectively became a part of the many companies owned by Sony. He has had a contract with RCA, a subsidiary of Sony, since 2012.
However, Billboard reported earlier today that his name was effectively removed from the RCA website. Kelly has been involved in many different sexual scandals, including when he was first arrested in 2002 for his involvement in a child pornography tape.
However, he was exonerated of all charges in 2008. In the docu-series, R. Kelly is accused of abuse by former backup singer, Jovante Cunningham, Lizzette Martinez, and Andrea Lee, his ex-wife. The series averaged 2.1 million viewers.

It was a huge success for Lifetime. As a consequence of the series, many artists and former collaborators have chosen to condemn Kelly, including John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Chance The Rapper, and many others. Since then, a campaign on social media began called, “#MuteRKelly.”
Other musicians to pull their collaborations with R. Kelly on streaming services include Celine Dion, Chance The Rapper, and Lady Gaga. Moreover, his music has been banned on two different radio stations, and other community organizers have asked for the same thing.
Currently, the R & B singer is facing off against eviction from a recording studio in Chicago due to unpaid bills. Faith Rodgers, a woman in the documentary, claims Kelly had threatened her with violence due to her lawsuit.
On Friday, a man who supposedly worked as Kelly’s former manager turned himself into authorities. The unnamed man allegedly threatened the family of Joycelyn Savage, one of the women supposedly held against her will, despite releasing several videos in which she claimed to be there willingly.

This comes right after Tracy Sampton claims Kelly had abused her when she worked as an intern at Epic Records in 1999. Supposedly, Kelly had coerced her into a relationship and forcibly kissed her. Despite the public outcry, police haven’t charged the former legend with any crimes.
