Travis Wittlake Injury: Following a short break from wrestling, Travis Wittlake, a renowned wrestler from Oregon, has made a successful return to the ring, aiming to reaffirm his talents. After being sidelined due to an injury, his comeback has stirred excitement among fans and supporters of the Oregon’s two-time Wrestler of the Year.
Hailing from Coos Bay, Oregon, Travis achieved All-America honors twice with the Cowboys and notched 79 victories in Stillwater. Additionally, he clinched four state championships with an exceptional 196-2 record while being a four-time All-American. His remarkable achievements continued in his second season, commencing with a flawless 14-0 record and concluding with an overall 22-3 record, including a perfect 10-0 in duals throughout the 2020-21 season. He overcame six ranked opponents, securing a third-place finish in the Big 12 tournament and a fourth-place finish at the NCAAs, culminating his second season with the prestigious title of being an All-American.
Travis Wittlake Injuries & Health: Uncovering the Cause of His Absence
The wrestler encountered two leg injuries, leading to his absence from the mat. Wittlake reportedly suffered an ankle injury during the Junior National Duals in late June last year. Additionally, a wrestling maneuver in a match led to the effects of a left knee injury for Travis Wittlake, OSU’s 165-pounder. Although he continued wrestling for a few more bouts, he was re-injured during the Bucknell dual, ultimately forcing him to miss the last dual of the regular season.
These injuries even thwarted his qualification for the NCAA event for the third consecutive year. Nonetheless, he is now making a comeback to competition with a determination to prove himself once again. Reflecting on the incident, Travis emphasized its uniqueness, highlighting that he had never been in such a condition before.
“That one was difficult to watch,” he remarked. It was strange not to have any pressure, simply to be able to watch the tournament with no emotional connection since you weren’t in it. So it was something I had to deal with.”
Travis Returns to Oregon
After announcing his transfer to Oregon State on Instagram in September 2023, with one year of eligibility left, Wittlake, a two-time All-American for OSU, reunited with his local club, bringing joy to many of his supporters in his hometown. Moreover, Travis expressed his excitement about returning to Oregon in an interview.
He mentioned,
“I haven’t wrestled in Oregon in quite some time. I’m quite thrilled. “A lot of people are coming out to watch.”
On returning to Oregon, Wittlake reunited with coach Chris Pendleton. Chris had previously served as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State before taking over as the head coach of the Beavers. Additionally, despite facing obstacles due to his health, Wittlake diligently worked during the summer to move up to 184 pounds. He staged a return by wrestling Trey Munoz, presenting Wittlake with a tough challenge to establish his position in his new weight class.
