Gallardo shared a series of pictures of herself posing happily in the pool, wearing a bright orange bathing suit. "This adventure that is life! ❤️," she captioned the post. How does she stay so fit? Gallardo uses ankle weights as part of her workout routine. "The weight places a greater load on the muscle group being targeted. The muscles have to work harder to move this increased load against gravity, and in turn this will increase strength," says Terry Downey, a physical therapist at Harvard-affiliated Spaulding Rehabilitation Network.

Gallardo takes collagen supplements. "Collagen benefits your joints, tendons, and ligaments by allowing them to glide and move with ease — much like how oil benefits a car!" says Amy Myers, MD. "With age, and as your collagen production depletes, your joints can become stiff, swollen and painful, even causing a lack of mobility. Collagen contains the amino acids glycine and proline, which help to support joint mobility and a healthy inflammatory response."

Gallardo loves fresh fruit such as bananas for a quick, healthy snack on-the-go. "Since they have a low water content, bananas typically have more calories as well as a higher sugar content compared to other fruits," says registered nutritionist Jo Lewin. "They contain sugar in the form of sucrose, fructose and glucose in combination with fiber, this allows them to supply an instant yet sustained boost of energy. Being rich in potassium they support muscle contraction during exercise and may reduce the risk of cramping. As such bananas make a valuable inclusion both before and during a prolonged form of intensive exercise."

Gallardo takes supplements to support her hair health. "Your primary care doctor or dermatologist can help you safely determine which hair growth shampoos and supplements would be the most appropriate," says dermatologist Shilpi Khetarpal, MD. "You may be able to restore your hair to what it was like five years ago, but not much beyond that. Those are the hair follicles that can be woken up with nutritional supplementation and medical treatments. Hair that has become too thin and fine can no longer penetrate and exit the surface of the scalp. You have to be reasonable with your expectations."

Gallardo considers herself a "self-taught" pianist. "Musical activity throughout life may serve as a challenging cognitive exercise, making your brain fitter and more capable of accommodating the challenges of aging," says Brenda Hanna-Pladdy, PhD. "Since studying an instrument requires years of practice and learning, it may create alternate connections in the brain that could compensate for cognitive declines as we get older."
